Breeding Syno. multipunctatus

I stripped one of my two holding female Placidochromis electric blues.  But I only found one 1 baby Syno. multipunctatus in her brood.  Maybe I will get luckier with the other female when I strip her next week.  I did get a bunch of baby electra.  I split them up into two groups.  About a dozen in one tank and the rest in the breeder with the baby catfish for it to chew on.

Well it looks like I won't be turning in any multipunctatus in November.  I popped the other female I had holding in the tank and didn't find any catfish.  Although it looks like I will have plenty of cichlids though!

Your further then I was ever able to get with the multis.  The first time I tried to work with them I had 6 wild caught males-no girls!  I added 3 girls to the group later on but still had no luck.  I now have a wild group of 11 fish...haven't sexed this set out yet and 5 tank raised adults that look to be 3 female sand 2 males.  Now to pick out a cichlid to keep with them...

I heard that any mouthbrooder with a big mouth will work.  My P. electra seem to work so far.  My females are still young and small so it should get better as they get older.  I plan on raising up this batch of fry and working the females back in (along with one or two younger males) so that I have a big colony for the cats to choose from.

I have heard that peacockse good with breeding multi's, the only drawback is that the peacocks get smart enough to catch on after about 3 or 4 spawns and act accordingly, lithobates on the other hand are supposed to be really stupid with whats going on and will continue to spawn allowing the multi's to intercept the spawn

Well I took Kegger's advice and switched out the Placidochromis for some peacocks.  Must be working.  I stripped my first peacock that I found holding in there today and got 3 Syno. multipunctatus babies this time.  The female was pretty small so I guess that's pretty good.  Now if I can only get that magic number 5!

Was reading that A. Burtoni were good to use also, so I gave Dragonkeeper a group I had to use and they just spawned for him the other day and got 12 Burtoni eggs and 27 Multi eggs so the Burtoni seem like they are pretty good to use also

Mine are still pretty small.  Only about 3" long.  I am sure that when they are older they produce more eggs.

I DON'T THINK SIZE MATTERS, IN ORDER FOR THE SYNO-MULTIS TO SPAWN THEY HAVE TO BE AT LEAST 2 YEARS OLD.

My multi's are at least 3 years old now.  The problem is my peacocks are still fairly young and their mouths are small.  Can't hold a lot of eggs yet.
