Tyrannochromis nigriventer...I've used Clout for tapeworms but wondered if there's anything better.
Clout works good but I don't like that it is carcinogenic.

Praziquantal.  The trick is getting the medication to the worm to kill it.  Tape worms are intestinal, so the meds need to get in by ingestion.  Not easy to do.  If the fish eats well you can soak pellet foods in the medication or buy a medicated food.  Dosing the tank may work, but it will take a lot longer.

A faster dewormer is levamisol... but meds with that chemical specifically for aquarium use are hard to find.  Another option flubendazol.  Also very hard to find in an aquarium formulation.

Jim,
as you may know you most likely contracted the tapeworm by eating food or drinking water contaminated with tapeworm eggs or larvae may be water from an infected tank. In order to prevent reinfestation stop eating contaminated food and drinking contaminated water. Keep checking your stool to make sure no more segments (proglottids) of the worm, as well as eggs, can be seen.

This is something you will have to do yourself. Good luck, I hope you get better soon !
