Sad news

It is with deep sadness that I am sharing with the Milwaukee Aquarium Society’s community the loss of one of our most beloved, long-term members, Ken King. A long-time member and leader of MAS, Ken’s lifetime contribution to our organization is unmatched.

Many will remember his passion for the hobby and for the Milwaukee Aquarium Society, where he served as a member of the Board and various officer roles. Most recently, Ken was the passionate leader of our PAP program, encouraging all members, new and old, to contribute to the club and its various events. In that capacity, he was also the maker and banker of the Fish Bucks, a fun and festive element to our annual Christmas party, which he planned with the support of his wife, Bonnie and son, Sam.

In addition to his work with MAS, Ken’s work with livebearers also earned him several honors from the ALA.

I will personally always be grateful for his kind and generous nature, quick smile and happy laugh. Ken was one of the first people to welcome me to MAS and the one who convinced me that Fish Bucks are more valuable than gold.

On behalf of MAS, our deepest sympathies go out to Bonnie and Sam, also dearly loved members of our fish family.

Friends of the King family are invited to attend a celebration of life honoring Ken on March 24th from 12 to 5, at the Community Center, 205 Park Street, Iron Ridge, WI 53035. Attendees may bring a dish to share if they would like. MAS will be organizing car pools for anyone wishing to attend. Please post in the forum, on Facebook or email me at [email protected]

I have also created a post in the Forum, where friends are encouraged to share their memories of Ken. We will be creating a special tribute to his memory.

Alissa Kiedrowski, President, Milwaukee Aquarium Society

We will still be holding our regular March meeting, which will feature Jeff Michels speaking on the cichlids of West Africa. Doors open at 6:30; meeting starts promptly at 7. Admission is free and guests are encouraged to attend. There will be a mini-auction following the meeting.
