February General Meeting and News

The next general meeting of the Milwaukee Aquarium Society will be held at Hoffer’s Tropic Life at 7:30 pm, Friday, February 15th.

Update!!!  Unfortunately, Matt McGee had to cancel his trip/talk and on very short notice … Rick Borstein has volunteered to step in and give his 60 tips talk!  Rick is an accomplished speaker and currently president of the GCCA(Greater Chicago Cichlid Association), Chicago Livebearer Association and FAAS ( Federation of American Aquarium Societies).  We are very happy Rick has stepped up and welcome him with great excitement.  If you have a chance please thank Mr. Borstein yourself for rearranging his schedule and coming to our rescue!

We will be welcoming Matt McGee for the February meeting to give a talk on shrimp in the aquarium.  I have been told it’s a great talk from a knowledgeable speaker so please attend!  There is also some late breaking news that MAS will be holding a Fish-O-Ramma swap on Sunday April 7th, 2013.  The Fish-O-Ramma will be held at the usual time of 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.  Vendors make sure you contact Jerry Michaels to reserve a table soon!  His contact info can be found by clicking the Fish-O-Ramma link above.

It’s official!  MAS is now a CARES preservation program member club.  You can see our MAS logo on the CARES website and I am putting the finishing touches on getting all the documentation together to post on the website.  The Conservation link on our page will be changed to say MAS CARES, and we will be following all the guidelines of the CARES program as outlined on their website.  We already have several MAS members keeping registered CARES fish in their homes with more to come.  It’s great that we can play a part in this worthwhile cause!

I would like to add a big thank you to Brian and Judy of the store Bestfish at 1335 N. 3rd St. in downtown Milwaukee.  In addition to providing a gift certificate as a raffle prize at our November meeting the nice folks at Bestfish gave out gift certificates for every family that attended our Christmas party.  If you get a chance stop in and say thanks, or check out their website at http://www.bestfish.us/
